The history of the GSP is one of intentionally versatile bred dogs. The standard calls for a dog that perform on both land and water, hold a point and retrieve to hand both fur and feather game.
We honor this tradition of GSPs not only because the dogs love it, but to strengthen our bond working together as a team.
When I brought my first GSP home I had many folks give me this advice. And while nothing is ever absolute in the world of dogs, it is our belief that a dog with a job is a happy dog.
Our dogs work most of the year with the exception of summers off to swim and relax. When temperatures start to drop we refresh on the spring training and then head into the fields, forests and lakes for hunting season.
Early season duck is a favorite as we strive for the breed standard of water loving GSPS. And when sled season ends in winter, we begin spring training and enjoy shed hunting with some of the older dogs.
Recently we have entered the world of Hunt Tests. It has been a great adventure and I’ve met many wonderful people. We believe strongly in showing that our dogs fit the breed standard by requiring any dog in our breeding program to pass their Junior level AKC Hunt Test.
This shows they possess the natural ability to perform in the field as intended. We hope to continue moving up the levels with our dogs and look forward to the Spring Tests.
